Radio Listeners Adopt 780 Families in 18 Hours
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – December 4, 2008 – This week 780 families were given the opportunity to have a brighter Christmas thanks to the generosity of 102.9 Lite FM listeners and The Salvation Army.
On Dec. 3 and 4, 102.9 Lite FM held its fourth-annual Adopt-A-Family Radiothon, which encourages listeners to purchase Christmas gifts for a family in need and deliver the goods in person.
Not only did the listeners adopt all the families, they did so in record time: The radiothon was scheduled to run until 7 p.m. on Dec. 4, but all of the families were adopted by 9 a.m.that morning.
“We’re so thankful for people who are willing to make personal sacrifices in order to give to people who might otherwise go without this Christmas,” said Twin Cities Commander Major Darryl Leedom. “And in this tough economy, to have all of the families adopted in such a short time is even more amazing.”
The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn.
