2010 Salvation Army Kettle Kickoff Going High-Tech
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – November 9, 2010 – The Salvation Army is going high-tech at Kettle Kickoff 2010, held Nov. 11 from 6 a.m.–1 p.m. at Plymouth-Vicksburg Cub Foods, 3550 N. Vicksburg Lane in Plymouth.
Those who attend Kettle Kickoff will see how The Salvation Army’s free new iPhone, iPad and iPod touch apps make bell ringing and gathering donations even more fun and easy. A new Salvation Army-inspired children’s ebook entitled “The Bell,” downloadable for iPad, Kindle and Nook, will also be showcased. In addition, Kettle Kickoff will be the first day of a new text message-based way of giving – texting the word “Blessing” to 85944 will provide a $10 donation to the Twin Cities Salvation Army, payable on your monthly phone bill.
That’s just the start. Anyone at Kettle Kickoff who signs up for two hours of bell ringing gets a $5 gift card from Bakers Square and a pair of 3M™ Thinsulate™ Thermal Insoles, while supplies last.
KOOL 108 FM will broadcast live at Kettle Kickoff all morning. The event will feature musical performances from the Benilde-St. Margaret's High School Orchestra and Girl Singers of the Hit Parade. There will be fun activities and free refreshments, including hearty snacks and endless cups of Caribou coffee. Also, attendees will have the opportunity to make personalized Christmas cards that will be placed in food baskets distributed to thousands of Twin Cities families in need.
All day long, Cub Foods will match kettle donations made at all of its Twin Cities metro area locations – up to $10,000.
A welcoming ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Among the speakers will be local Realtors® challenging Twin Cities businesses to staff a kettle for one whole day of bell ringing during the upcoming kettle season, which runs Nov. 11–Dec. 24. On Dec. 10, Twin Cities area Realtors® will participate in Realtor® Ring Day, the largest local bell ringing effort in Salvation Army history. The Realtors® will attempt to cover 204 kettle locations for an entire day.
“This year’s Kettle Kickoff is sure to be unlike any other,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “Come join us as we celebrate the start of Christmas and a new season of giving.”
