Timely Donation: Walmart Gives $75k for Minot Flood Relief

MINOT, N.D. – July 29, 2011 The Walmart Foundation is giving the Minot Salvation Army $75,000, a timely donation that will ensure The Salvation Army can continue serving Minot flood survivors longer into the future. A check presentation will be held Aug. 1at the Minot Walmart at 10 a.m.

The number of flood survivors coming to the Minot Salvation Army for food, gas, clothing, building supplies and other direct assistance skyrocketed this week, going from about 25 people per day to hundreds. In addition, The Salvation Army’s cost of serving food to the community has reached about $12,000 per day.

“We praise God for this blessing from Walmart,” said Major Donald Kincaid, Minot Salvation Army administrator. “Their generous donation will help flood survivors get their lives back on track and it will pump money back into the local economy. With demand for Salvation Army services so high right now, every dollar we receive is being used the day we receive it.”

To date, the Minot Salvation Army has spent nearly 8,000 hours serving about 25,000 meals, 30,000 snacks and 50,000 beverages.

Dozens of volunteers are needed daily for food service and other tasks. To learn more, call 701-509-6992 or sign up online at www.thesalarmy.org/minot.
