Bismarck Salvation Army Scales Down Flood Response
Food assistance still available at Salvation Army facility

BISMARCK – June 20, 2011 The Salvation Army will temporarily discontinue its mobile kitchen services for local residents and flood workers in Bismarck and Mandan on Wednesday, June 22.

“The need for our mobile kitchens is all but gone in flood-affected neighborhoods,” said Major Lee Morrison, administrator of the Bismarck Salvation Army. “While our volunteers will continue to serve food and beverages on a case-by-case basis, Tuesday will be the last full day of their regular city route.”

Mobile kitchen crews should be back in full swing later this summer and in the fall, when the floodwaters recede and cleanup efforts begin.

Since May 25, the Bismarck Salvation Army has served over 40,000 people during the 2011 Missouri River flood response. Lately, the most prevalent Salvation Army service request has been food shelf assistance. Food shelf services continue to be available at the Bismarck Salvation Army, located at 601 S. Washington.
