'Comcast Cares Day' Benefits The Salvation Army

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – May 2, 2011 –
An army of Comcast employees, their families and friends descended on The Salvation Army April 30 to spend the morning helping the elderly, painting facilities and refurbishing collection bins.

Some of the volunteers came to The Salvation Army in Northeast Minneapolis to paint its youth library and computer lab. Both rooms were in desperate need of fresh paint.

Others went to the home of elderly Minneapolis resident Cle Gorman to clean the inside and outside of her house. In addition to other medical issues, Gorman needs support because she is going blind. “She is such a beautiful person. This will be a huge blessing to her,” said Salvation Army social worker Cathy Baugh.

Another team came to The Salvation Army headquarters in Roseville to paint and repair barrels used to collect toys and clothes during the Christmas season.

“Comcast is a perfect example of how a group of compassionate individuals and dedicated businesses can transform a community,” said Major Darryl Leedom, Salvation Army Twin Cities Commander. “This is just one example of what Comcast accomplishes with The Salvation Army. Once a month, they serve breakfast at our St. Paul location on West 7th Street. They also use their bill inserts to encourage their customers to volunteer. It’s a great relationship.”
